Celebration of 80th Independence Day of India in Riyadh

The 80th Independence Day of India was celebrated on August 15 at the Embassy of India in Riyadh with enthusiastic participation from around thousand people, including members of the Indian community, journalists, and friends of India in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

2. The celebrations commenced with the singing of the National Song, ‘Vande Mataram’, followed by the hoisting of the Tricolour by Ambassador Vipul and the singing of the National Anthem. Ambassador Vipul then paid floral tributes at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi. He subsequently read out the Hon’ble President’s message to the Nation and Indians around the world on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day.

3. In his keynote address, Ambassador Vipul highlighted the close and wide-ranging bilateral relationship between India and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and underscored the crucial role played by the Indian diaspora in deepening and strengthening this partnership.

4. The address was followed by a vibrant cultural programme presented by members of the Indian community, showcasing the rich cultural diversity of India. The programme featured a diverse mix of patriotic songs and classical dance performances including those commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the National Song, ‘Vande Mataram’. Ambassador Vipul presented certificates to the performers, and winners of the ‘Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz’. Following the official programme, the Ambassador interacted with members of the Indian community.

5. Through the flag hoisting ceremony, the Embassy participated in “Suryapath Tiranga”, an Indian flag-hoisting relay tracking the movement of the sun from East to West. The initiative symbolized the enduring connection among members of the Indian diaspora across the globe and was organized under the broader Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.
