Celebration of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on January 9, 2020

The Embassy of India, Riyadh celebrated the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on January 9, 2020 at the Embassy premises. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated every year to mark the day when Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa on January 9, 1915.

The event commenced with Ambassador H. E. Dr. Ausaf Sayeed welcoming the Indian community on the occasion and recognizing their contributions in Saudi Arabia. The Ambassador alsomade a brief presentation on the activities and events of the Embassy in 2019, highlighting key milestones in the bilateral relations between India and Saudi Arabia.

A recorded address by the Hon’ble External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankarpresented in New Delhi on the occasion was played, in which he recognized the key contributions of Indian diaspora all over the world. A play on ‘The life of Mahatma Gandhi’ by children of Indian community and other cultural programmesby students of International Indian School, Riyadh, were presented on the occasion, which were well appreciated by the audience. Indian community members Mr. Neyaz Ahmad, Mr. Shihabudeen V.K and Mr. Mohammad Zaigham Khanpresented their thoughts on the occasion.

The event concluded with the distribution of felicitation certificates to those who participated in various events held by the Embassy.

Over 200 members of the Indian community in Saudi Arabia attended the event.
