79th Independence Day of India celebrations in Riyadh

The 79th Independence Day of India was celebrated on August 15 by the Embassy of India in Riyadh with enthusiastic participation of around one thousand people including members of the Indian community, Embassy officials, journalists and friends of India in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

2. The celebrations began with the hoisting of the tricolour by Ambassador Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, followed by singing of the national anthem. Ambassador Khan paid floral tributes at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi. Ambassador Khan then read out Hon'ble President's message to the Nation and Indians around the world on the occasion of 79th Independence Day. Later, in his keynote address, Ambassador Khan highlighted the close bilateral partnership between India and Saudi Arabia and the significant role played by the Indian diaspora in making this relationship vibrant and robust. The remarks were followed by cultural performances by Indian community members showcasing the rich diversity of India. The cultural program was an eclectic mix of patriotic songs and classical dance performances. After the official event, Ambassador Khan interacted with members of the Indian community.

Further, in the run up to the Independence Day, Embassy officials, their families and Indian community members took part in theHar Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, displaying their deep patriotic spirit and unwavering pride in the tricolor. Separately, a special cleanliness drive under ‘Har Ghar Swachhata’ campaign was organized at the Embassy with the aim to create a clean and pleasant workplace while also reinforcing a spirit of service an efficiency.
