Kargil Apricots launched in Saudi Arabia for the first time,

on the occasion of India’s 79th Independence Day

Locally-produced apricots from the Kargil district in Ladakh, India were launched in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the first time, under the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative of the Government of India. Ambassador of India, Dr Suhel Ajaz Khan launched the product at the Lulu Hypermarket in Riyadh, as part of India Utsav, on the occasion of India’s 79th Independence Day.

2. In his address, Ambassador Khan highlighted the importance of this effort, which resulted in fresh apricots sourced from one of India’s northernmost regions being made available to customers in Saudi Arabia. Ambassador Khan appreciated the role of Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority of India (APEDA) and the Lulu Hypermarket in this regard, and underlined that Indian Government will continue to support and facilitate such joint initiatives.

3. The event also saw a large number of new Indian products being launched at the Lulu Hypermarket. A large number of Saudi nationals and expatriates attended the event.
